What to Look for in a Group Health Insurance Plan
So you have decided to offer your employees group health insurance, congratulations, they will love you for it, especially if you chose a good affordable health insurance plan that meets their needs. Your employees expectations will be high once they hear the words “group health insurance”, naturally they expect all their medical bills covered at a very low cost. That probably won’t happen, you will need to balance their expectations against the cost of different plans to find a happy medium.
HMO’s are typically a good compromise for both employees and employers. Employees can see in network doctors free or at a very low cost. HMO’s usually offer full reimbursement for most hospital and emergency room visits. Affordable health insurance however is not a good deal if there are not enough participating providers in your area. Check to see if there is a reasonable number of area doctors and hospitals that are participating in the group health insurance plan that you are considering.
Your company should take into account what a group health insurance plan will cost every month, but there are other considerations as well. Is the plan subject to renewals every six months? Will the group health insurance company provide printed materials for you to distribute to your employees that explain their coverage and deductibles, or will you have to answer all employee questions? Is this a group health insurance plan that is easy to administer?
To find these answers easily, look for websites that aggregate health insurance information. You can easily compare group health insurance plans side-by-side and chose the best plan for both your employees and your company.
