Asthma and Allergies
Not a few individuals who have thought that asthma and allergic runny nose is a different thing but really is not much different. Why? because both these disorders occur in the same place at a respiratory disease that includes the category of “one airway, one disease”.
Dr. Hadi Moeliawan, Sp.P of Asthma & Allergy Clinic Dr.Indrajana Mitra International Hospital stated that allergic reactions occur in the upper respiratory tract (nose) is called a cold allergy. While allergic reactions to lower respiratory tract (throat) into asthma.
Allergic reactions in people allergic runny nose caused inflammatory reactions upper respiratory tract to cause a lot of mucus in the nose. While in asthma, allergic reactions that occur in the lower respiratory tract of mucus that causes a lot of phlegm gathering.
Dr. Hadi added, colds allergies will cause constriction of the airways that makes nose clogged. This occurs due to an allergic reaction that causes inflammation of the upper airway, specifically in the nose (Concha). This section will swell and cause difficulty due to clogged nose.
Meanwhile, if the allergic reaction and inflammatory processes occur in the lower respiratory tract, the narrowing occurs due to swelling of the mucous membranes of the lower respiratory tract, causing tightness (wheezing). This is what is known as asthma, said Hadi.
In addition to the tightness, other symptoms felt in the upper respiratory tract of patients allergic runny nose is itching in the nose to come sneeze – sneeze, especially in the morning or during contact with objects that trigger allergies. While the lower airway, the emergence of itching leads to symptoms of cough – cough in asthma.
Thus, asthma and allergic runny nose is associated, because of what happened in the upper respiratory tract also occur in the lower respiratory tract.
